Talimina State Park is a base from which to enjoy hiking, biking or ATV thrills and spills in the Ouachita National Forest. There are also camping and picnic sites available here.
Robbers Cave State Park is situated due west of McAlester and north of Wilburton in the woodlands of the San Bois Mountains of southeastern Oklahoma. The park gets its name from its notoriety as a former hideout for outlaws and is popular for rappelling and cave exploring, as well as for fishing, boating, hiking and horseback riding. Park facilities include picnic tables, comfort stations with showers, boat ramps, a swimming beach, swimming pool with bathhouse, playgrounds, miniature golf, hiking trails, paddle boat rentals and a nature center.
The Garrard Ardeneum, also sometimes referred to as the McAlester Arboretum, is a private home and garden, which is open to the public by appointment. The property features landscaped gardens, antique furnishings and historical items, making it an especially popular place for weddings, receptions, private functions and photography sessions.
